Daniel Reza Sabzghabaei selected for National Sawdust – New Works Commission for JACK Quartet

I am excited to be joining a wonderful roster of artists of diverse backgrounds and practice to be commissioned by National Sawdust as part of their inaugural New Works Commission for their Digital Discovery Festival. Over the next months I will be participating in master classes and collaboration sessions with the mentor artists and wonderful performers from the JACK Quartet and the National Sawdust ensemble. The new works for JACK will be premiered online Friday Dec 11th at 5pm here.
Daniel Reza Sabzghabaei wins OPERA America IDEA Grant
Daniel and his collaborative team, Mina Salehpour and Yashar Saghai, have been awarded a major award from OPERA America to support their new monodrama The Veil. OPERA America’s new IDEA Opera Grants (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access) support works by under-represented voices in American opera.

Daniel Reza Sabzghabaei wins new commission from Young New Yorkers’ Chorus
Daniel Reza Sabzghabaei awarded Emergence Fellowship with Guerilla Opera
As an inaugural Emergence Fellow, I be will collaborating this year with Boston’s Guerilla Opera on a new operatic work with Berlin-based director and librettist Mina Salehpour. The new work, called “The Angle of Darkness (زاویه ی ظلی), will reflect on an anecdote from an anonymous Persian woman part of prominent women’s protest movement in Iran.

Daniel Reza Sabzghabaei selected for Banff Centre Residency
From February 11 – March 2, I will be in residence at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity in Alberta, Canada, working with Pro Coro Canada (Michael Zaugg, cond.), composer Tarik O’Regan, and Swedish conductor Lone Larsen as part of their Choral Art Program. This tuition-free program brings together a select group of composers, conductors, and choirs for an intensive workshop that explores the creation and presentation of choral music in the 21st century.
