Daniel Reza Sabzghabaei wins First Music Commission from the New York Youth Symphony
Daniel Reza Sabzghabaei was selected as Grand Prize Winner of the New York Youth Symphony’s First Music Commission in the Chamber category. As part of the commission, Daniel will act as a guest educator and artist for the students of NYYS, culminating in performances of the newly commissioned work in the Spring and Summer of 2023 at Carnegie Hall and the Interlochen Arts Academy.
Daniel Sabzghabaei wins First Prize in the American Viola Society’s 2022 Gardner Competition

Daniel Reza Sabzghabaei’s viola and medium voice work …under this blue of my land was selected from a pool of 113 submissions as First Prize Winner of the American Viola Society’s 2022 Gardner Competition. His work will be featured at the 47th International Viola Congress in Columbus, Georgia, June 1-5, 2022.
Daniel Reza Sabzghabaei wins First Prize in the Lake George Music Festival Composition Competition

Daniel’s work At any rate II. باقی مانده “what remains” — commissioned by National Sawdust for the JACK Quartet — won First Prize in the annual Composition Competition sponsored by the Lake George Music Festival. Daniel will be in residence at LGMF in August for performances of the work and coachings with LGMF musicians.

Daniel Reza Sabzghabaei selected for FLAS Fellowship
The Mario Einaudi Center for International Studies at Cornell University has selected Daniel for both the Summer 2021 and Academic Year 2021-2022 FLAS Fellowship. This competitive fellowship, supported by the US Department of Education, supports three or four graduate students per year who have a special interest in less commonly studied languages.
This award will allow Daniel to focus on Farsi, Persian studies, and research toward his dissertation.
Daniel Reza Sabzghabaei wins Chorus Austin’s 2021 Young Composer Competition

Daniel’s work گلی از دست برفت (Golī az dast beraft) “A flower was lost”—commissioned by VocalEssence—was selected as winner of Chorus Austin’s Young Composer Competition from a pool of 114 composers from around the world. Daniel will collaborate with the ensemble on performances of the work this Fall in Austin, Texas.

Daniel Reza Sabzghabaei awarded First Prize in loadbang 2021 Commission Competition
Among a field of over 400 applicants, Daniel was selected for a commission from loadbang through their annual Commission Competition. Daniel will be collaborating with loadbang over the next year on a new work for the ensemble, with a workshop planned for summer 2022 at Longy’s Divergent Studio.
Daniel Reza Sabzghabaei selected for CULTIVATE Fellowship from Copland House
Chosen from a pool of 150 applicants in 32 states, the District of Columbia, and four countries, Daniel will be collaborating with Music from Copland House on a new commission this June 6 – 14 at Aaron Copland’s National Historic Landmark home in northern Westchester County, NY, and other nearby locations.
