Sonnet 19 (2016) – SATB a cappella (6′)
——————————————-
-Shakespeare’s text flourishes and swells around the same swirling music. Language and motifs intertwine to create textures sometimes blurry, other times clear, sometimes lush and sweet, others dense and biting. The language is not only a vehicle for emotion and passion in this work, but raw sounds and percussive accents; the words and music become equals in the setting, with each highlighting one another through melody and harmony, consonance and dissonance, rhythmic activity and stasis, and succinct articulations. Appropriate for collegiate ensembles and beyond.
